Featured Object: Veil Nebula (NGC 6960 / NGC 6992)

The Veil Nebula is a supernova remnant located approximately 2,400 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus.

It's what remains of a massive star that exploded somewhere between 10,000 and 20,000 years ago. The expanding shell now stretches about 110 light-years across, covering an area of sky roughly six times wider than the full Moon, and its delicate filaments are still racing outward through space.

Captured through my telescope over multiple hours, this image reveals the threads of glowing gas that give the Veil its name. The Veil Nebula is a beautiful reminder that endings aren't only endings. The material scattered by a dying star becomes the raw ingredients for new stars, planets, and eventually us.
